About

Every flavor has a story behind it

Every ingredient has a lineage, and every dish has a history. The table is a gathering ground where we don't just consume nourishment—we engage with the culture, stories, and relationships built into everything we taste. The Flavor School exists to slow down, taste carefully, and follow each flavor back to the people and places it came from.

Sabina Benaiah, founder

"Food is a universal connector. When we dive into new flavors and train our palates, we are tapping into a sensory experience that elevates our lives. When we contextualize that experience — the tastes, places, times, people, and practices that brought it to us — we ground ourselves in a global language of love, community, and shared human experience."

The Flavor School mark: a cacao pod cut open, with five seeds

Why five seeds

The number five turns up all over the world of food: the five basic tastes, the five flavors of Chinese cooking, even the five petals on the blossoms of many fruit trees. The five seeds in our mark stand for the five lenses The Flavor School brings to every tasting and talk.

Part of a family

The Flavor School has a sister site, The Spice Academy, with the stories, kitchen know-how, and recipes behind everyday and not-so-everyday spices.
